In 2005 a group of people were concerned about the quality of Personal Care people in Clearwater and Beltrami were receiving. A couple individuals approached Bruce Emmel with the possibility of starting a new Personal Care agency which would treat the elderly with honor, the disabled with respect and the chronically ill with compassion. They knew that neither Clearwater nor Beltrami County had a local Personal Care Provider and they felt strongly that the management of a Personal Care Provider should be local, accessible and accountable to its clients. They were idealistic, because they believed in the old saying that “home is where the heart is”. They recognized that having the right attitude improves quality of life as well as an individual’s health. It was their belief that if the saying is true “home is where the heart is”, then why leave? This was the motivation that inspired Home at Heart Care. Today Home at Heart Care has over 350 Personal Care Assistants and Homemakers enrolled with the Department of Human Services.
Home at Heart Care has a traditional philosophy of employment. They believe if an employer is honest, fair and open with their employees, that the employees would in turn treat their clients the same way. Home at Heart Care also believes in going only where they are wanted, for that reason Home at Heart Care does not solicit clients and abides by the Minnesota Home Care Bill of Rights. They accept only clients who have asked personally to receive care or who are referred by a Social Worker. Since Home at Heart Care accepted their first client, their reputation as a people-friendly company has continued to grow. As of April 2008 they have accepted close to 200 clients and continue to accept new clients on a daily basis.
Home at Heart Care is a Traditional Personal Care Provider Organization. Home at Heart Care is also a Home and Community Based Waivered Services Provider, providing Homemaking, Chore and Companion services.
